DC Coils
DC Coils
DC motors and generators can be divided into five general classes according to their electrical characteristic. These classes include series, shunt, compound, interpole and compensated machines. In each of these the armature may be the same, the difference being in the stationary field pole windings and how they are connected to the armature. Shunt coils are often separately excited and connected in parallel with the armature. Shunt fields are generally wound with relatively small wire having a high resistance and many turns. Rotating fields for synchronous motors and generators are also excited with DC. Shunt Field Coils.
